Sony Pictures begins development of "Greyhound" sequel with Tom Hanks returning

Sony Pictures has officially started work on a sequel to "Greyhound" — the 2020 war drama in which Tom Hanks played a leading role. Hanks will reprise his role as Captain Ernie Krause, having signed on for the continuation.

What will "Greyhound 2" be about?
According to early information, the sequel will follow the Greyhound crew as they advance from the beaches of Normandy to the Pacific Ocean, playing a pivotal role in turning the tide of World War II. Filming for the period drama is set to begin in January 2026 in Sydney, Australia.

Producers and Director
Aaron Schneider, who directed the first film, will return to direct the sequel as well. Tom Hanks will once again be responsible for the screenplay. Gary Goetzman, producer at Playtone, will also be involved in the project, continuing his successful collaboration with Hanks — especially after their work on the 2024 military drama miniseries "Masters of the Air."

Casting and the Future of the Project
While casting is still underway, it is expected that Stephen Graham, who appeared in the original film, will also reprise his role. However, the sequel’s official release date has yet to be announced.
